The word 'vicarious' means to partake in the feelings and experiences of another as if they were your own.

My name is Kyle. I'm from Northwest Indiana - graduated from Portage High School back in 2006. In fact, this journal began right when I got out of high school. I've been on the internet(s) for quite some time now. I've seen it evolve from "animated GIF" town to "good lord what have you done to my eyes/ears" alley. Technology can only do so much, I'm afraid. I'm pretty easy going as many younger folks are these days. It's both my downfall and my high point. I've retained a lot from my youth that some people have chose to leave behind. Very into respecting those who came before you and remembering your roots. Who you are now is largely attributed to those who affected you and influenced you growing up. Food for thought, I guess? Anyway, this journal is an outlet of mine to express things I feel are worth sharing. It ranges from political banter, to video games, to work woes, to observations in life, to memorable moments, and beyond. I try to keep things interesting and something people...well, I...will want to read in the future. So none of this "I made a sandwich today and hung out with Steve!" business. Although you might see me swoon over Mexican food time and again.

Ah, so you wanna know more, do ya? Very well then. I'm a weird cross somewhere in between an introvert and an extrovert. I like having nights out with friends the rare chance we can all get together but spend the bulk of my time alone. Gives me time to think, you know? And to write rhetorical questions in my LiveJournal at 3AM. During this time I have a cat that keeps me company. His name is Mr. Kelly, and I have had him since I was 4! That puts him, given the age we got him at the time, at around 20-years-old. He's a very sweet cat but only opens up to me usually. I love him more than I could possibly put into words. Anyone who has a lifelong pet I'm sure knows this feeling. Moving onward, I try to keep optimistic about things, although slipping into cynicism is not a foreign trait of mine to say the least. Sometimes the sun doesn't shine; casts of a shadow over you. I don't mean to get too introspective in something as trivial as a personal profile and whatnot, but when you look at our culture and see how mediocre things have gotten in recent years it takes a toll on you. I don't fear the bogeyman, death, or the dark of the night - I fear unethical big business, degeneration of our standards, and corrupt politicians who dictate the times. The lack of role models kids have. The half-hearted hacks who come in digestible pill form, disorienting our illusion of "personal" taste. I could rant on and on about this but as a heroic act of benevolence will spare you of this torturous tirade. Hey folks, it's either this or "HAI GUYS I LIKE TO GO CLUBBIN' AND HAVE FUN," right? Right. Or wrong. Who the hell knows.

Still here? Good. This is the fun part: Personal Interest Time™!

My main thing is video games. From all eras, varying genres, and any system that will play them. One minute I'll pop in a few rounds of Burger Time the next I'm taking down mutated dogs in Silent Hill. I have a bias towards older games and would rank them higher than most new ones, but there are plenty of modern day classics to go around. Want me to list a few? No? Well too bad. LittleBigPlanet (ps3), Super Mario Galaxy (wii), Dead Space (360/ps3), Uncharted (ps3), Okami (ps2/wii), Shadow of the Colossus (ps2), etc. My main game is without a shadow of a doubt Metal Gear Solid. The series has been my favorite for a decade now. I love the expressionist direction, the dialog, the story that spans over 20 years worth of games, the inventive gameplay...it really is the whole package and transcends any other gaming experience I have ever had. Beautiful saga. So what about the older games? The classics? Well there's all the Marios. The original Sonic trilogy ranks up there. Some other games include Commando, Snake Rattle & Roll, Altered Beast, Mega Man X, Donkey Kong Country 2, Frogger, Nightstalker, Super Mario Kart, Kirby Superstar, Aladdin, Space Invaders, Flicky, Rocket Knight Adventures, Metroid, and do you honestly want me to go on about this? My favorite soundtrack is easily Donkey Kong Country 2. If Stickerbush Symphony doesn't make you tear up, you're subhuman. Yeah, I said it!

Let's awkwardly transition over to music now.

Music is one of those things you constantly try to fine tune (quite literally if you're a musician) and tweak over the years. Sometimes you just grow out of stuff, other times you find something that is simply timeless. I could rank my favorite bands, however it would change rapidly given the mood and day. My current favorites are Porcupine Tree, Tool, Pink Floyd, Orphaned Land, Miles Davis, Hiromi Uehara, John Coltrane, Opeth, Agalloch, Radiohead, Jimi Hendrix Experience, At the Drive-In, Explosions in the Sky, Isis, The Black Keys, Dredg, and MF Doom. My main is Porcupine Tree/frontman Steven Wilson. Favorite album of theirs is a toss up from Signify (1996) and The Sky Moves Sideways (1995). The song that gets everybody hooked to these guys is "Trains".

I enjoy making little films. Mostly just fun stuff that doesn't take a whole lot of effort, but I've done some script writing and acting for my internet show, Living Vicariously. The show is kind of on hiatus right now but there's about 8 episodes worth of material put out there. Some bad, some good, but all 100%...made? Check it out under my links. There's a parody of the N64 Kids, Legends of the Hidden Temple, Rocky, Metal Gear Solid, and hopefully one day Rock Band!

This has ran farther than I originally anticipated so with that I bid you adieu.
